  1. I find the weathered skin of fresh ginger and mandarins and cucumbers and kale gorgeous. My own weathered skin? Not so much. What gives?

I’m remembering the silver hair and lined face of a model I once saw in Yoga Journal. Her beauty was almost subversive; she was radiant beyond any ideas I had about aging. The message she transmitted was that she was beautiful, but not necessarily because she was an object of desire or sanctioned symbol of perfection, airbrushed for some magazine. Her beauty came from the inside, like a cabbage sprouting.

I want to be a subversive beauty.
